“It has been over ten years since I began my Dermatology clinic in Nanaimo. I feel privileged to have some of the nicest patients and consider many of them to be long-time friends. What I enjoy about working in Nanaimo is the range of skin conditions I can offer care for. Many patients have skin cancer concerns and others have inflammatory disorders for which we now have modern therapeutics. Phototherapy for psoriasis is a busy part of my practice and one of the conditions I am most excited to treat. I love my specialty and cannot imagine practicing any other kind of medicine.”

She graduated with a degree in Biology from Waterloo University before completing a PhD in hypertension medical research at the University of British Columbia. This five-year training program allows Dr Weichert to offer expertise in all aspects of skin disease including inflammatory, cancerous, and surgical Dermatology problems. She is a Dermatology Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (2003). Shortly after her training, she moved to Nanaimo to establish her practice.
When away from clinic, Dr. Weichert enjoys time with her husband and two children. She keeps busy reading, but also cross-country skiing, running, kayaking and raising chickens!
“In addition to dermatology being a fascinating and personally fulfilling field of medicine, I sincerely enjoy meeting the people who comprise my patient population. I believe my previous background as a Family Physician and Emergency Physician helps me address multifactorial skin problems with patient-centered solutions.”

Dr. Simice feels fortunate to be working with such excellent colleagues and support staff at Skin Care West, who each bring their unique experiences and expertise to the team.
After growing up in Comox B.C., Dr. Simice was keen to return to Vancouver Island in 2007. She and her family have embraced the many opportunities of living in Nanaimo. During her time-off, Dr. Simice especially enjoys spending time with her children and husband on either snow or water. She commiserates with her patients with respect to the challenges of effective sun protection when being active outdoors.
“I started out providing surgical services to Skin Care West on an intermittent basis, and I found that I really enjoyed the work. I love the procedures, and I’m fascinated by the complex interaction between the skin and sun exposure. Eventually I left Emergency Medicine to focus my practice entirely on skin surgery and the treatment of skin cancer.”
